Welcome Sungi Mlengeya to the Institute Museum of Ghana's Permanent Collection!

We are so honoured to announce that work by Tanzanian visual artist, Sungi Mlengeya, is now a part of the Institute Museum’s permanent collection. ‘Transcendence’ which is currently on display within the artist’s solo exhibition at The Africa Center [London] is part of her (Un)choreographed series where the Ugandan dancer, Lilian Macmillan, serves as muse – Mlengeya’s dear friend. The anthropomorphic body movement in this painting with the subject’s multiple arms and extended form exude female empowerment – a theme the artist addresses throughout her practice. We look forward to welcoming more dynamic women artists from the continent and diaspora into our collection over the coming years.
