AT A GLANCE

A one-year program for two (male and female) emerging artists exclusively from Ghana.

Working alongside the annual artist resident and senior fellow, two junior fellows are invited to establish their studios in a shared adjoining warehouse, accessible through a connecting bridge and topped by designated studio spaces. Selected exclusively as emerging artists living and working in Ghana, junior fellows are offered year-long access to Noldor’s spaces and artistic resources and, in close contact with the other inhabitants of the space, encouraged to challenge their visual language as they work on creating a full portfolio of work.

The selection process, which takes place each January, is the result of a concerted process involving Noldor’s Founder, Cultural Curator, Advisory Patrons and existing fellows. Upon completion, Noldor’s goal is to launch the junior fellows into the primary art market in partnership with a commercial gallery.

In March 2021 Noldor hosted our two inaugural Junior Fellows, Abigail Aba Otoo and Joshua Oheneba-Takyi, whose debut solo show, “Seat at the Table,” took place in July at the Gallery 1957. Araba Opoku and Boluwatife Oyedrian were nominated as the Junior Fellowship in 2021. Araba Opoku was named the winner of the Yaa Asantewaa Art Prize by Gallery 1957 in August 2021, and her first solo exhibition opened in March 2022 at the ADA Contemporary Art Gallery in Accra. Boluwatife’s first international show, “Point of Correction,” opened at the Afikaris Gallery in Paris, France in January 2022. For the 2023 Junior Fellow we have onboarded Ishmael Armah, who debuted his solo exhibition with Chilli Art Projects in London in May 2022 and had his second solo exhibition “Possibilities” with Galerie Ron Mandos in October 2022. We can’t wait to welcome our new addition to the Junior Fellowship Grace Tong!
