AT A GLANCE

A six months-to-one year fellowship program for a mid-career/established artist from the continent or the African diaspora.

In parallel to the 4-week artist residency, Noldor has developed a senior fellowship program, whereby each year, a mid-career artist from Africa or its diaspora, whose practice reflects Noldor’s affirmed African identity and vision, is invited to take over Noldor’s extensive fellow studio space in Labadi, for a duration of six months to a year.

The selection process, which takes place each January, is the result of a concerted process involving Noldor’s Founder, Cultural Curator, Advisory Patrons and existing fellows. Partnered with that year’s resident, the senior fellow acts as a mentor and experienced resource, all-the-while focusing on their studio work and on producing a dedicated portfolio ahead of a private showing at the end of the fellowship.

Noldor hosted its first senior fellow, Ghanaian artist Gideon Appah, in March 2021. Maku Azu has been appointed as our Senior Fellow for the 2022 term. Maku is a Ghanaian practitioner. Her works were shown at the Masterpiece Art Fair in London this June 2022 by Adrian Sutton Gallery and at Gloria Gallery in a group exhibition “Rebirth #2” in Paris, France. She was featured in “Once Upon A Time in Mayfair” , a Group Exhibition with Phillips. We can’t wait to welcome the new 2023 Senior Fellow: M. Florine Démosthène and Temi Wynston Edun!
