Preview Showing by Visiting Fellow Kwabena Lartey: The Unknowns

The institution is happy to announce our preview showing of visiting fellow Kwabena Lartey (b.1995) titled “The Unknowns” Saturday, June 19th 2021 from 11:00am- 8:00pm. The show will end Saturday, July 3rd, 2021.

Kwabena Lartey’s practice focuses on the effect of violence-led social injustice and its limitation on black identity. While your eye travels across his acrylic on canvas work, confrontation of the individuals to the viewer begins as his non finito approach takes form. The biomorphic shapes are a reference to the trauma induced mental prison that takes away from the identity of the obscured black faces.
