Our Chief Curator takes on her next chapter in her art journey!

As an artist-led space, Noldor continues paving the way for the next generation of emerging contemporary artists from the continent and the diaspora. Just like many of our artists evolving through their visual practice, we have been very fortunate to watch the journey of our Chief Curator, Rita Mawuena Benissan (go through her practice.

Our hearts are both warmed and somber to announce Rita’s stepping down as Chief Curator as she transitions toward becoming a full-time artist later this year. She will join Sir David Adjaye and Modupeola Fadugba as the youngest member on our advisory board.

We are delighted to add her umbrella work “Ade an Ebetumi Akari Pɛ, 2022” to the Institute Museum of Ghana’s permanent collection as vote of confidence and demonstration of our continued support on the new chapter! Fabiola Ondzounga, our Curatorial Assistant, will serve as our Acting Chief Curator during this transition. We will be eternally grateful to Rita for her contribution to Noldor’s foundation, and we can’t wait to see where her umbrellas will take her next!
