Our Director, Joseph Awuah-Darko speaks on growing Ghana’s cultural and creative renaissance through the Institute Museum of Ghana and the dynamic program at Noldor Artist Residency in Accra, Ghana.
Speaking to hosts Spencer Bailey and Andrew Zuckerman, he shares his motivation for establishing Ghana’s first independent arts residency and fellowship program for African artists and the importance of creating sustained longevity for critical discourse around contemporary African art.
Highlighting the role of the Noldor Residency in sustaining Ghana’s blossoming cultural and creative renaissance, Jospeh notes that “Beyond my friendship with thought leaders in the art space, I have had a unique view of the ability of the arts to push culture forward. We had Kehinde Wiley, who painted the portrait of Barack Obama visit the Residency and interact with the fellow.
