Noldor collaborates with Limbo Accra to activate Airport Tower in 2023

The Noldor Residency’s vision to manifest the largest public art installation in the city’s urban history will be powered by Limbo Accra.

This collaboration is centered on a shared vision to activate a derelict skeletal landmark through Limbo’s practice and core study of engaging with incomplete concrete structures.

Beyond its recognisable quality as a sculptural urban edifice, the Airport Tower simultaneously tells a story of the past and future; distorting the usual narrative of scarcity that has been told for centuries, into a tale of endless opportunities for creative expression and manifestation. The site activation is the merging of two worlds that further manifests as a symbol for increasing public accessibility to the otherwise unaccessible and unknown. Thus, inspiring any viewer to envision and create their own imagination with Accra’s countless voids.

The activation itself will include an installation by the Director of our artist-led institution, Joseph Awuah-Darko, whose artist oeuvre of monumental tapestry work will go live to scale at the end of 2023. There will be extensive preparatory work within Awuah-Darko’s studio and major design and structural optimisation contributions from Limbo.

This deeply reflects our shared commitment to mutually amplify the global significance and multi-layered spectrum of Ghana’s creative art ecosystems. Excited to share more information soon!
