Noldor alumni feature in group exhibition at Sotheby’s, Tel Aviv

Sotheby’s Tel Aviv together with the founders of the Olym Collection present ‘Contemporary Redefined: Africa Today,’ the first exhibition of its kind to be held by the company in Tel Aviv.

The exhibition, curated by Noldor Director and 2022 Visiting Fellow, Joseph Awuah-Darko tactfully features the new vanguard of African Contemporary artists within the Sub-Saharan and Western regions of the continent – 31 works by more than 20 artists from eight African countries.

The over 20 artists featured included Noldor alumni, Emmanuel Taku, Samuel Vittu, Samuel Olayombo, Joshua Oheneba-Takyi, Foster Sakyiamah, Kelvin Ansong among others.

Shedding more light on the curating of this exhibition, Awuah-Darko said: “they all depict a very unapologetic stance on an intrinsically African identity. Even though the continent in of itself is beautifully heterogeneous and complicated, thematically, there is this strong core sense of identity.’ To illustrate this, he cites one of his favourite African quotes – ‘ubuntu’ – which simply means ‘I am because we are.”

The exhibition is on view till March 31, 2023.
