Oheneba-Takyi Joshua [b. 1997 Kumasi, Ghana] is a researcher and an artist whose findings are primarily rendered in paintings and sometimes manifested in installations.
In exploring themes centred on mundane experiences, Oheneba focuses his practice on the interaction between chairs and humans, using that as a starting point in his work.
He is interested in the universality of chairs, the residual history, memory, and experiences that develop due to the continuous relationship between humans and this manufactured object. Chairs dominate space in the composition of his work, competing fervently with human presence. Through meticulous placement, magnification, and repetition, vibrant life is immortalised upon these otherwise experiences and inanimate objects.
He has a degree in Building Technology from the Department of Art & Built Environment in KNUST, Kumasi. He employs and applies knowledge from these spaces in contextualising and making his pieces. He has now dedicated himself to pursuing a full-time art career.
Oheneba’s versatile practice has always drawn attention and has been exhibited internationally, including at Christie’s in Dubai, Saatchi Gallery in London, Gallery 1957 in London, and Maruani Mercier in Belgium. He currently spends his time at Creccents, his studio in Accra, devoted to ongoing research, workshops, and pushing his artistic practice.
